Eastern Ukraine — A routine humanitarian trip nearly turned into tragedy when Pastor Yevgeny, a long-time minister of the war-torn communities of eastern Ukraine, was targeted by a Russian FPV drone while delivering bread and water to a frontline village.
For more than a decade, Pastor Yevgeny has faithfully served both civilians and soldiers in some of Ukraine’s most devastated regions. His ministry, carried out through Light of the Gospel Church, has touched thousands of lives by providing not only physical aid but also the hope of the gospel.
Recently, as he was driving through one frontline settlement, his van came under attack. Witnesses report that a Russian drone circled the vehicle before striking it several times. The blasts tore a hole in the side of the van, destroyed the container of drinking water, and left the vehicle badly damaged.
Miraculously, despite the violent attack, neither Pastor Yevgeny nor anyone with him was injured. Against all odds, he managed to drive the damaged van back home. Local villagers, shaken by the assault, expressed both shock and amazement at God’s protection over the pastor and his team.
The attack highlights the cruelty of Russian forces targeting a van that was delivering nothing more than bread and water to suffering civilians. Yet it also testifies to the greater goodness of God — His providential protection and the eternal bread and water of life He offers through the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Please pray for Pastor Yevgeny and for the members of Light of the Gospel Church as they press on in their mission to serve people in desperate need, even in the face of deadly threats.
